Papers of Philip St. George cocke [manuscript] 1829-71.

Correspondence, accounts, inventories, slave lists, military dispatch and order books, April-July, 1861, special and general orders, and other papers. The bulk of the material concerns Cocke's Civil War career and Confederate military operations, particularly at Manasses, July 1861. Other material pertains to the James River and Kannwha Canal Co., the American Sunday-School Union, the Virginia State Agricultural Society, Kentucky lands, stock market reports of New Orleans and Mobile, Ala., salt works at Saltville, Va., White Sulphur Springs Hotel, and the establishment of an agricultural college near the University of Virginia. Includes letters to Cocke's son, John Bowdoin Cocke.
